The Book

The Nation State of Texas

How to Secede without a tinfoil hat

A CLEAR VISION . . .

OR SCIENCE FICTION?

As soon as anyone mentions Secession, people immediately picture them with a tinfoil hat on their head and decide to socially distance themselves, if not avoid them altogether.

And in most cases, rightfully so.

This book isn’t what you think it is. And it might be much more. It all started with questions asked many years ago.

What is the “end state” for governance? What’s the true goal?

Despite thousands of years of complex human history and different political models to draw from, there is still so much strife in politics.

In Texas, there has always been talk about breaking away from the union.

Often, these are knee-jerk reactions to events or trends. And the cries to separate usually stem from some far-flung fringe philosophy with some loosely thrown-together ideas.

In this book, enjoy the exercise of imagining governance based on 250 years of the American experiment, and the rigorous work of proposing specific changes to improve our government—whether it be Texas, Ohio, or the UK.

ABOUT AR

“AR” Salyer was born in Pozzuoli, Italy to his US Navy father and American beautician mother. The “AR” has nothing to do with firearms, it’s merely short for Andrew Ryan.
As a youth, AR earned leading roles in high school plays and numerous trophies by competing on oval tracks — racing quarter midgets and sprint cars. These early passions for performance and precision foreshadowed a life of eclectic pursuits.
Enlisting in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate, AR served on Trident nuclear submarines, serving as a battle stations helmsman.
From bouncer to bartender, electrician to car salesman, pool hall staff to telecommunications specialist for a Fortune 100 company, AR wrote the guidebook on the road less traveled. For nearly a decade, he fronted bands, wielding guitar, bass, and vocals in his city’s vibrant original music scene. Each role, and every stage, offered a new slice of Americana, shaping his unorthodox lens on life.
AR’s political engagement began with Ross Perot’s 1992 campaign, a spark that grew through disillusionment with the GOP after the 2008 bailouts. Active in the Tea Party’s grassroots and Ohio Liberty Council, he distanced himself when the movement was co-opted.
Guided by Twain’s wit, Voltaire’s skepticism, and Jung’s wholeness, AR crafted a political philosophy blending historical insight with pragmatic governance. His nuanced takes resonate in policy circles, offering a historian’s depth and a skeptic’s edge.
In 2012 he moved to Texas during a company restructure, eventually moving up the corporate ladder for the better part of decade in a frenetic 24/7 environment.
Since 2019, AR has waded deep into the world of firearms, training with USPSA Grand Masters and combat veterans. His vast experiences—from submarine helm to corporate strategy, punk stages to policy debates—inform a singular voice.
AR’s writings dissect America’s complexities, Western culture, and humanity’s future with rigor, wit, and a touch of mystery, making him a fresh voice in governance discussions.

I want to see the preservation of Western Culture, no matter which country adopts it.”
